What to say

  • When, where, who, what, why, how: Let people know when and where the drive will take place, who can donate, why they should participate, and how they can help.

  • Emphasize the "why".

  • Blood donors help save lives.

  • Each blood donation can help three or more patients in our community.

  • 75 blood donations are needed every weekday in our community.

 Ways to reach your audience

  • Invite your Blood Center representative to speak at an assembly or to individual classes.

  • Speak to your representative for ideas and be creative!

  • Put up posters and banners in heavily-used hallways and rooms -- order a sufficient quantity from your Blood Center representative.

  • Distribute Blood Center brochures and information about donating.

  • Arrange for art students to make special poster.

  • Make presentations at faculty and PTA meeting.

  • Show a Blood Center video.

  • Write a story for the school paper.

  • Put a notice on the reader board outside your school.

  • Send a flyer home to parents.

  • Arrange for PA announcements.

  • Two to three days ahead, remind students to return signed permission forms and to eat and drink fluids before donating.

  • Announce the drive on the day before and the day of the drive.
