Rotary Blood Donation Week a Success "Service Above Self" - local Rotary Club members put their club's motto into action during the last week of July. The first annual Rotary Blood Donation Week was a big success. These generous donors not only battled their hectic schedules to take time to donate, but they also battled the weather. With temperatures well above 90 degrees and outrageous humidity, all blood donors who braved the elements were greatly appreciated. During the week, a total of 41 local Rotarians rolled up their sleeves to give the gift of life. In all, a total of 55 Rotarians donated within the eight weeks prior to the event. All five area Rotary clubs in Champaign, Savoy and Urbana worked together in an effort to help patients who must receive blood transfusions. Club member Nestor Ramirez, M.D., a local neonatalogist, organized the event. Dr. Ramirez sees the continuous need for blood donations everyday in his medical practice which specializes in the treatment of premature babies. Thank you area Rotarians for your outstanding support.
